How to use sage green in your interior design
Sage green is the colour of the moment in interior design. Which is brilliant in our books and here’s why.
A pale green like sage invokes a feeling of calm to a room. It matches with so many other colours well and sage green wallpaper is in abundance to choose from.
Why is sage green so popular right now? You can create a haven at home bringing in the green from nature into your interior design in a very modern clean crisp way. This muted tone green can be used in so many interior styles; from a contemporary home to traditional styles. It also works in all rooms in the home from a bathroom tile to wallpaper in a bedroom.
So whether you want to call it sage, mint or pistachio, lets get inspired by choosing colours that match with green.
Sage green with burnt orange
I am starting with my 2 favourite colours! Light green with a deep terracotta shade of orange. Both being earthy colours they tone so well together. And if your instinct is to shy away from this colour combination think about oranges on a tree, carrots with green stem or an orange flower surrounded by green leaves. It is truly a colour combination straight from nature.
In your interior design i would make green the hero and add pops of the orange to create the contrast. For example using a sage green wallpaper as the backdrop and ornaments or cushions featuring the burnt ochre orange.
Green and White
For a clean and elegant room you really can’t talk about what colours go with green without looking at the simple white. This is easy to do as most walls are already painted white. And even having a fresh white painted ceiling and skirting boards will contrast in a timeless way against a green wall.
This is a popular green colour combo and works well everywhere from the kitchen to a home office.
Match Green with Pink
Green and pink may not be your first choice and is best suited to bedrooms and living spaces. Generally because it is used in floral themed wallpaper.
I would keep the pink a dusty or antique shade of pink. Although if you are a colour lover a bold crimson pink accent would seriously pop against a pale green wall.
Green and Natural is a popular colour match
When speaking about natural tones I refer to anything from creamy beige to earthy brown. These colours serve to ground a space and so do well to create a calm ambience in a city dwelling.
The green works particularly well with dark or red timber and so wood is a great way to include the brown tone against a sage green wallpaper backdrop.
Matching green with other colours in wallpaper
Apart from my mum reciting the rhyme ” blue and green mustn’t be seen” there is not much that doesn’t work with this versatile shade of green.
To go slow with your colours that go with sage green try adding a subtle gold accent or black furnishings.
When it comes to wallpaper you can have a textured un-patterned sage green wallpaper and have furnishing or flooring that contrast. Alternatively try finding an accent wallpaper that has your favourite colour that goes with sage green within the pattern itself.
